GLOBALVOLUNTOURISM.
WHO WE ARE GLOBAL SPECTRUM is a travel organization specializing in South East Asia. GLOBAL COMMUNITY SERVICE FOUNDATION is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) charity organization formed in 1994 by the management of Global Spectrum, in order to help the people of South East Asia. http://www.globalvoluntourism.org
GLOBALVOLUNTOURISM grew from a combination of these two operations, and our new program is designed for travelers who would like to go one step further than just being a tourist. It is often the case in developing countries, that tourism provides a jumpstart to the local economy by offering an infusion of money, job opportunities for local people and an interaction between visitors and the local community. Our programs are designed to make use of each volunteer’s unique life experiences and skills, to help the local people learn what they need to become employed in various aspects of hospitality and tourism. Conversational English is vital for obtaining most jobs in tourism, as well as a knowledge of dress, presentation, personal hygiene, developing confidence to communicate with tourists, and in many cases, computer knowledge. At each location, we will build a library of materials, to leave a lasting source of information pertaining to the area and needs.
OUR PROGRAMS will begin in January 2006. Each will be a two week, tax deductible, program, and will include eight hours of volunteer service each weekday. Weekends and evenings are free, and optional weekend side trips will be available. Each volunteer day will include two hours morning and afternoon with conversational English and/or very basic computer skills. The balance of the day will include field trips to visit hotels, restaurants and other tourist sites, and/or specialized programs and help using your own, unique, life skills.
Program Fee will be approximately $3,000 and will be inclusive of accommodations, food, local transportation, program materials, tourist training visits to hotels, restaurants, etc., an English speaking local program coordinator, and administration fees.
