Thai Elephant Conservation Center Home Stay

An opportunity for the adventurous traveler to experience working and living with the Thai Elephants and their mahouts. (elephpant keepers). This is a hands-on program where you participate in the daily care and training of the elephants.

Day 1  TECC:
Arrive Chiang Mai airport and transfer to by car/van to the Thai Elephant Conservation Center (TECC) located near Lampang. (1.5 hour drive from Chiang Mai).

Day 2  TECC:
This morning enjoy watching bath-time (for the elephants), the elephant show and elephant painting. Afternoon is yoru first mahout session where you will learn to mount, dismount and ride an elephant. Late in the day, with your mahout, walk your elephant into the forest for their overnight. Before dinner, take a stroll through the mahout village which is part of the center and visit with the families. Participate in a hands-on cooking lesson as you help prepare the evening meal. (B,D)

Day 3  TECC:
Early morning walk into the forest to offer your elephant their "first banana" of the day before walking them back into the center in time for their morning bath. After the show another mahout session with your elephant continuing to perfect your mahout skills. Afternoon visit to the centers paper making area, hospital and nursery. Ride your elephant back into the forest for the evening and help to secure his resting area for the night. (B,D)

Day 4  TECC:
Early moring walk into the forest to feed the elephants their "first bananas" and return with them to the center. Bath time, show time and mahout training. Afternoon visit to Friends of the Asain Elephants where elephants that have been injured are cared for. Return back to TECC in time to ride your elephants back into the forest for the night. (B,D)

Day 5  TECC:
Full day excursion the the Sancturary (about 2.5 hour drive each way from TECC). The vet will be there to perform his scheduled check-up of the elephants. The sancturay is home to the old and injured elephants that will live out the rest of their lives in this pristine forest area. The sanctuary is sometimes referred to as "an old folds home for elephants". Help prepare the herbal medicine/vitimin sticks that are give to the elephants by their mahouts every day. You'll enjoy lunch with the mahouts before returning to TECC. (B,D)

Day 6  Chiang Mai:
Early moring walk into the forest to for your final ride back to TECC, bathtime, showtime and painting time. Say goodby to your elephant and your new found friends before returning to Chiang Mai. Overnight in Chiang Mai. (B,D)

Day 7  Departure:
Transfer to the Chiang Mai Airport. (B)
